In this experiment, we learned how different factors can impact the coefficient of frictional forces. In part A, a simple trial was performed where a wooden block that was at rest was placed on a surface that was being inclined until the wooden block started to move, the angle at which the block started to move was recorded. As shown in Table 1, the kinetic coefficients of the large and small area of the block are fairly close to each other, in addition the uncertainties were also found to be similar. In part B, a wooden block was slid on a wooden surface that was already at incline. On the other hand, the coefficients of static friction as shown in Table 2 were not that close to each other, and the uncertainty was different for each side. The data shows that different materials do have an impact on the coefficient of an object, in addition to the texture of the object and surface that may show higher resistance compared to others. This allowed us to determine the coefficients for both the static friction and kinetic friction. Although all of the values were obtained, the values were not satisfying. Therefore, the objective was not met since the coefficient of kinetic friction turned out to be larger than the coefficient of static friction. This is due to some errors that may have occurred during the experiment. For example, as the block was sliding down it moved from where it initially started which resulted a change the direction of friction. Another types of error may include human error where time was not recorded accurately, or the distance between the stickers and camera was not accurate throughout the experiment.
