For my final paper, I will be writing about my mother and her experience being the caregiver of my grandmother, who suffered from Alzheimer’s. I will be using the six steps of cultural competency, that was developed by Arthur Kleinman. I was also interested and hoping to include the hardships they faced in Chile, trying to get the care needed for my grandmother. You may write a historical-study paper or dig into an issue that is occurring today.

Option #1: Essay-a typical research paper of 5 pages in MLA format. You need at least 3 sources AND your Annotated Bibliography to take place of Works Cited. Just put them together.
For your final paper, write about what you want—any cultural phenomenon that interests you: dig up some secrets; delve into the unknown; try to piece together a mystery; look at a product to see why it was/is popular; debunk or support a popular myth. You may write a historical-study paper or dig into an issue that is occurring today. Come up with some research questions to guide you along the way.

Should you not be able to submit this assignment on time, please let dante know by the same deadline of nov 16th at noon, which author or chapter you plan to cover.

Please access the volume Writing Europe, edited by Ursula Keller, which provides some more possible viewpoints on European cultural identity by well-known authors from all over Europe, and is also available online on reserve (through the link in Library Online Course Reserves or here in the module).
LINK: https://books.openedition.org/ceup/1611
If you have not done so as part of the last assignment, please have a look at the summary of Wagner’s article. Then read the intro (the first chapter by Keller), AND choose one additional chapter of the volume (you will be reading two chapters from this volume in total). Submit a commentary type statement of about 500 words on your chosen chapter as a marked assignment here on canvas by Nov 16th at noon, including some quotes based on the questions below, which we will also use for a synchronous Group Work session on Nov 17th. (Please do not just comment on the introduction by Keller!)
1) Which problems does your chosen author address?
2) How does the author define or picture Europe (in the past, present and future)?
Please submit your work either directly as a text in the main submission field, or upload a Word file (no pdfs, please)! Thanks!
Important: This assignment will be a marked assignment and will count towards your participation mark. In addition, please make sure that you also make your work accessible in a format that can be shared with your other group members during the group work in class and later on Canvas. Please note, that the group work makes only sense, if you all have something to share. Should you not be able to submit this assignment on time, please let Dante know by the same deadline of Nov 16th at noon, which author or chapter you plan to cover. FYI: We won’t cover the whole volume in lecture style.
Optional: Feel free to read more chapters, but please comment only on one.

When we look at post-war chinese films, we see the emergence of two types of films.

When we look at post-war Chinese films, we see the emergence of two types of films. On the one hand, in the film Crows and Sparrows (Wuya yu maqe 乌鸦与麻雀, 1949), we see the realistic portrayal of social reality along with an urgent sense of political intervention and a focus on the masses. On the other hand, in a film like Spring in a Small Town (Xiaocheng zhi chun 小城之春, 1948), we see a more lyrical portrayal of characters’ inner worlds and feelings. Describe these different cinematic modes by discussing these two films in a comparative framework. Focus closely on key themes, cinematic techniques, and messages each film conveys.
1. Construct a clear, well-rounded thesis / argument.
2. Analyze and discuss TWO (2) films within the framework of your central thesis /
argument.
3 . Integrate and engage ideas in at least ONE (1) secondary source of relevant
scholarship or theory. Be sure to accurately cite the author and title of the text(s)
you are referring to.
4. Follow correct formatting guidelines (MLA or Chicago Manual of Style) for all
references and bibliography (list of works cited).

Explain what the true monuments men were tasked with doing and provide one specific example of an artifact they are known to have reclaimed.

Cultural Heritage and the Humanities This week, we are discovering who we are beyond our individual identities in order to better understand ourselves as cultural beings, and we are gaining a better understanding of how the humanities play a role in cultural expression. In this assignment, we will be exploring the importance of tangible cultural heritage. The Monuments Men gained popularity with the release of the 2014 movie of the same name. This movie was a fictionalized account of real people who risked their lives to save the tangible cultural heritage of Europe during WWII. They did not do this as an independent group; they were recruited and ordered by the United States Government. This tells us something about the importance of their mission and how works of art are valued as a representation of human culture and history, worthy of preserving and protecting, even in times of great danger. As Irina Bokova, former Director General of UNESCO once said, “There is no choice between protecting human lives and safeguarding the dignity of a people through its culture. Both must be protected, as the one and the same thing—there is no culture without people and no society without culture.” Before you begin, be sure to review the following resources: Historical Perspective: The Rape of Europa https://www.pbs.org/therapeofeuropa/about/
The True Story of the Monuments Men https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/true-story-monuments-men-180949569/#GCMzbT0yOTibQrrl.99

Instructions
Once you have finished, answer the following questions by listing them on a document and thoroughly answering them in paragraph format. You must include at least one resource in addition to the assignment readings. Cite all resources used and include internal citations and a reference list per APA requirements. See the APA LibGuide for more information about APA documentation. 1. Based on what you have learned in class this week, define tangible cultural heritage and write a brief summary of why saving tangible cultural heritage matters. 2. Explain what the true Monuments Men were tasked with doing and provide one specific example of an artifact they are known to have reclaimed. In regards to the artifact you choose, be sure to provide the following information with details from the research:
What was the artifact?
Where was the artifact originally from?
Why did the artifact matter? (Consider its overall significance and its cultural significance.) 3. Read through the List of World Heritage in Danger at http://whc.unesco.org/en/danger/ and choose one contemporary example of a tangible cultural heritage in danger.
Note: You must choose a tangible cultural heritage site. To do this, look for a red diamond next to the area on the list as seen on the Legend: (Legend shown in attachment)
a. State the cultural site you have chosen for #3 and briefly explain its cultural significance. Why is the site endangered? Based on what you have learned, why is it important to protect it?
