The topic of the paper is the project title, trust in automation in aviation. The topic selected is about the era of automation and how the public views it as it relates to aviation. In your introduction, describe the challenge/problem and why it is significant; use data and/or examples to make your point. Since the issue must be rooted in the literature, be sure to identify the journal article or published research/review article where the source for your idea originated for you. In the body of your paper, review the history of this problem, how it may have changed over time, and why. Use data/stats or examples to illustrate and justify your opinions. Then, explain how concepts related to the study of human factors can be employed to help address this challenge/problem. Has this potential solution been used successfully before? If so, please explain. Finally, describe how one might verify that your proposed solution/approach is successful and/or what other research may be needed moving forward. The paper should be 5–7 pages in length (not including the title page and reference page) and in current APA format.
The student will write a paper regarding an aspect of aviation leadership, ethics, or risk management or a combination of some of these topics. The paper should address the impact of aviation on current technologies and safety methods or you may elect to focus on new technologies and future initiatives.
The paper will be 10 pages using APA style (Title Page, Abstract, and Reference pages are not included in the page count). Proper grammar, spelling and references are required. The most current sources means within 5 years of today’s date. Make sure to cite all facts in text.
The paper will be on an aviation topic of your own choosing because, presumably, you will be interested, and do a better job. Keep the topic narrowly focused on your aviation topic.
Please see topic submission and use the 1 source in there as one of the 10 needed.
esearch Paper Process
Identify an appropriate research topic, related to the course, which you have personal
Locate at least two significant and relevant articles – they should be substantial articles
from a viable printed or posted source (not Wikipedia) of about 8-10 pages, not only 1-2
Read the chosen articles to ensure they are appropriate and relevant to your course and of
Write and submit your Research Paper Abstract (due in Module 6).
Once your Research Paper Abstract topic is approved, make any corrections (as needed)
and begin publishing your paper.
publish a summary of your articles. The summaries should be mostly (90 – 95 percent) in
your own words and thoughts about the article you are summarizing. Prior to
summarizing each article, ensure there is a heading within the paper that indicates an
article summary (e.g. [Article Name, APA citation] Summary).
publish an introduction to each article summary – tell the reader why you are presenting
this article summary (what is the significance of the topic or issue), what should they
focus on while reading this summary and what should they get out of reading it?
There should be a transition paragraph (and new heading) between each article summary
and your conclusion– help the reader understand why they just read the selected article
summaries, and that you are taking them to your conclusion.
Next you should be able to publish the conclusion to your paper. What did you identify and
what proof did you present about the issue, a new technology, a policy change, or an
invention that will have an impact on aviation or the reader.
Lastly publish the introduction to your paper. Now that you have a summary of each article,
an introduction to each article, and a conclusion you should be able to write a one or two
page introduction that gives the reader an overall perspective of your research (e.g. what
is the topic, the purpose, and the result of your findings)
Review and refine your Research Paper prior to submittal (due in Module 17).
Contents of the Research Paper
The Research Paper must be between 10 -12 pages double spaced, not including the cover and
Cover Page (page 1)
Abstract (page 2)
o Your original Research Paper Abstract, with any suggested corrections
Article Summaries (pages 3-8)
Conclusion (pages 9-12)
o What should the reader take away from your paper? (e.g. a new interest in the
topic, an idea how something works, or and understanding how a significant
historical or current event contributed to aerospace capabilities, e.g., “The
importance of this historical event . . . resulted in the future development of a

How to Write the Research Paper
Research and identify an aerospace topic that is of interest to you.
Topics can be:
o Historical – a significant contribution to modern day aerospace, private or
o Current – aviation or space flight development, can be new technology, new
aircraft, propulsion, changes in commercial transportation.
o Future – air traffic control upgrades (e.g., FAA NextGen), commercial space
transportation developments (e.g., supporting NASA) or the future of the
commercial space industry.
Read each article then:
o Highlight the key elements of your article that you will address in your paper.
o Summarize your reading in your own words – your final paper should be 90-95
percent your own words, not substantially paraphrased.
o Identify 1-2 significant short quotations from each article that can support the
importance of your paper’s topic.
o Write a first publish, get your ideas on paper (or computer) and then go back and
Use APA citation to cite the article in the paper (when it is introduced) and in the
citations page at the end of the paper.
Write a 3-5 page paper, not including an abstract, in APA on the following significant areas of ATC:
-Discuss the origins and evolution of Air Traffic Control.
– Describe how ATC has evolved from the first air traffic controller to the various types of air traffic controller facilities and positions that exist today (ATC, ARTCC, TRACON.)
-Explain why each phase of evolution was important.
-Provide a reflection about what you have learned from the examples of the ATC positions you listed in Module 1 that you were interested in. (
– Explain what you learned is the most important aspect of being an air traffic controller.
– Provide an example of an important event when ATC failed to prevent an accident and an example of when ATC contributed to solving a problem. Analyze why one was a success while the other was a failure and how each may have changed the evolution of ATC.
-Include at least 4 references in your essay.
-Please format your paper using APA style.
-Include a Title Page, Abstract, and References, which is in addition to the 3-5 page requirement.
-All in-text sources must be cited using the correct APA format.
What is the Role of Ethical Behavior in a Free Market?
Conventional wisdom views free markets as places where self-interest, rather than ethical behavior, reigns, but this is a narrow view, keeping in mind that people are also self-interested when they are outside the marketplace as when they are acting in the political arena.
Markets may actually encourage ethical behavior. The only way to make money in a market is to provide a service that other people value enough to pay for. This leads people to be cooperative and friendly and to try to provide a product or service that people want. In contrast, in politics, politeness and cooperation are difficult to achieve.
When corporate leaders act unethically (making false statements about the condition of their stock or illegally using money from their corporation) they generally suffer as a result. Their companies may be forced into bankruptcy or go out of business. In other words, markets themselves punish wrongdoers.
Another way to look at markets and ethical behavior is to argue that markets can operate only if people are ethical. Some say that markets are not themselves either ethical or not ethical. Rather, they are just a system of voluntary trade. Whether the actions are ethical depends on the people involved.
Question: Does business have a special ‘ethical responsibility’ to do good (to go beyond just following the laws and avoiding fraudulent behavior)? Doing good this way is sometimes called ‘corporate social responsibility’.
Economists such as Milton Friedman argue that companies have one responsibility: to make a profit, following laws and acting responsibly but not taking on special charitable tasks. Others, such as John Mackey, CEO of Whole Foods, disagree.
What is your position on this ethical marketing and responsibility iss
You will be a guest lecturer for one week in a 300-level, online course on human factors in aviation safety consisting of 25 adult students with diverse backgrounds and experience.
As the guest lecturer, the professor has asked you to share your experience with the class. After all, you are a Subject Matter Expert in the field of Human Factors and Aviation Safety!
First, decide exactly what you want to discuss by formulating your topic for the lecture by filling in the blank:

Please answer the following:
What is your topic?
What are the learning objectives you want to convey to your students (3–4 key points)
How will you design your content delivery?
What part is training, and what part is education?
What training method, education approaches, and job aids will you use, and why?
Compare and contrast the method, approaches, and job aids you selected to those you did not.
What job aid(s) did you select and how is it used in your class?
How will you measure student success?
Do not provide the actual course content, but instead describe your training and education methods, and explain how you would teach the class on the subject you have selected.
Compile the information into a paper of no more than 5-7 pages. While APA is not required for the paper itself, ensure that any references are properly cited in current APA format.
Your paper will automatically be evaluated through Turnitin when you submit your assignment in this activity. Turnitin is a service that checks your work for improper citation or potential plagiarism by comparing it against a database of web pages, student papers, and articles from academic books and publications.
