Many concepts, terms, values, beliefs, etc. are associated with ethics. Yet, typically, when studying ethics, a common group of principles is used to guide the learners. Here are the common ethical principles discussed in the textbook and described by the American Nurses Association:
* Autonomy
* Beneficence
* Nonmaleficence
* Fidelity
* Justice
* Paternalism
Understanding each is important to the ethical decision-making process. However, in this week’s discussion, you will make the argument that the principle assigned to you is the “most important” ethical principle in nursing.
The Principle assigned to you is on ‘beneficence’
1. Create an initial post on beneficence that includes the following elements in a maximum of up to three paragraphs total:
* Define the principle (beneficence) in a way that demonstrates your understanding (i.e., not a textbook definition; using an example often helps).
* Provide support beyond your opinion as to why your principle (beneficence) is the most important (e.g., use the textbook, ANA Code of Ethics, scholarly articles, etc.).
* Give a nursing example and provide us with a resource. Make sure you cite properly
Site all sources using APA Style format.
