Course Project Guidelines. Each weekly paper should be a stand-alone paper with a title page, table of contents, running heading, page numbers, section and sub-section headings, and a reference section. Each weekly paper should contain the previous week’s paper. By week four, students must submit the completed paper as one word processing file in APA style. Tables, graphs and figures should be included in the appendix of the paper.

Each weekly paper should show evidence of outside research from journals and other sources, and the final paper should be minimum of 10 pages and have a minimum of 10 journal and other reference sources. Wikipedia and the text book do not count as reference sources. Again, meeting the minimum criteria will earn a satisfactory (C) grade.

I would like you to use the following main headings. The sub headings are at your discretion. I suggest you start with the main headings as an outline and fill in each section weekly.

Introduction and purpose
Review of research
Findings and analysis
Conclusions and recommendations
References

Course project content. I expect the content of each project will vary depending on the type of the issue researched and the interest and focus of the individual authors. However, the comments below should provide you with some general ideas. Please use these as a guide and not as an outline.

Week1 paper. Introduction.
The first step in the project is to select the small-business management issue you would like to research.

Below are some general suggestions for the format of the week 1 paper. These examples are only suggestions, not an outline. Tailor your paper to the issue of your interest.
Introduction, background, and methods. Sub sections might include:
Brief history or events leading up to the current situation
Why this issue is worth studying?
Purpose of the study. Stated in one sentence, example, “The purpose of this paper is to…” This is a research paper, so do not state a conclusion in your purpose statement. For example, “The purpose of this paper is to explain how total quality management can help small business managers” assumes that TQM will help managers. A better title would be “The purpose of this paper is to investigate TQM as it relates to small business-management and to provide small-business managers with resources to decide whether TQM is appropriate for their business.
Research methods. What will you do to achieve the purpose of your research? Methods can include one or a combination of the following:
Interviews
Observations
Review and analysis of existing documents
Review and analysis of literature and internet sites

Week 2 paper. Review of literature and resources. This section should review and summarize the relevant literature (journals, trade publications, books, etc.) and resources (web sites, consultants or other experts in the field, etc.) on the subject. If you are not fam html

The review of literature and resources should be done in narrative form with the list of references in the Reference section at the end of the paper.

Week 3 paper. Findings And Analysis. Once the literature review is complete, you should begin the analysis. This section should derive from the review of literature and resources. The sources you reviewed should be analyzed and shown how they apply, or do not apply, to the issue you are researching. There should be an overall summary of your research and a discussion of the application of the research to your paper.

Week 4 paper. Conclusions and recommendations. The final section of the paper should build on the previous three sections and tie the entire project together. If recommendations are appropriate, they should discuss alternative strategies and should recommend one or more strategies to address the culture or leadership issue. The conclusions and/or recommendations in this section inferred from the discussions in the previous sections. This paper should contain all previous sections and should have a table of contents and section headings.

Course Project Grading. Content: 75% Substance, quality of research and documentation, quality of analysis, reasoning etc. Form: 25% Organization, writing quality, APA style adherence, physical appearance, etc.

Written assignments in English with appropriate citations of an author’s work are required of all students. Students are encouraged to use the services of the University’s Writing Center when preparing materials. Diversity:

Ethics:

Ethical behavior in the class room is required of every student. Students are also encouraged to identify ethical policies and practices relevant to course topics.

Plagiarism:

Plagiarism is the presentation of someone else’s ideas or work as one’s own, through either word for word copying of material or the presentation of facts without proper credit to the source of information.
1) Make sure that you rephrase information into your own wording!
2) If a fact is found in your paper that could not have come from your own personal knowledge and it is not cited where you gathered this information, then that is plagiarism!
Since this paper requires a large amount of data collection and research, it is perfectly natural to find many papers with citations of sources in almost every paragraph of a paper. Much of the paragraph may be your own words, but if you are including facts taken from an article you read, you are required to put a citation at the end of the paragraph or directly after the quoted or stated material. Please view the example research paper as a guide on how to properly cite sources throughout your paper.
Students found plagiarizing are subject to the penalties outlined in the Policies and Procedures section of the University Catalog, which may include a failing grade for the work in question or for the entire course. Automated online plagiarism systems are now available to all professors and make checking for plagiarism much easier now then in the past. So don’t risk it!!!
